Targets of Intervention The organization of the intervention chapters—presenting proactive strategies first, followed by academic interventions, and finally behavioral interventions—is intended to underscore the book’s ecological perspective that views inadequate classroom management, lack of success with academic tasks, or both, as contributing to students’ ineffective behavior.
Every effort has been made to accommodate the realities of the regular classroom environment without sacrificing effectiveness and fidelity to the original strategy. Because teaching students a specific set of procedures is a key component for many of the strategies, two subsections—Introduction and Training and Implementation—have been added to those interventions to enhance usability. Similarly, a Preparation subsection has been added for several strategies requiring additional planning steps prior to implementation.
